Pop Pirates Walkthrough
Pop Pirates is a fairly basic, yet incredibly addictive arcade style vertical shooting game that uses colorful and entertaining graphics with a fun story to draw the player into the game. While in the beginning, the game feels fairly simple, as you progress through the levels, you'll find the action gets much more difficult; particularly when you are forced to face off against 'the boss' at the conclusion of each level. The boss is never easy, but this game can be beaten as long as you're willing to stick with it. In a game this fun, however, sticking with it isn't that difficult at all. Expect to get frustrated and expect to have to retry several times, but with patience and practice, even a newcomer to vertical shooting games should be able to make it through.
One of the best things Pop Pirates offers is an interesting storyline that sets it apart from many of the other vertical shooting games online. While most other games simply tell you that you're under attack and need to defend yourself, if they even tell you that, this game gives you a story. Your computer has been infected with a virus. That virus has stolen your music. Anyone music fan knows this is pretty much a nightmare. You need to get that music back! To recover your lost music you must enter your computer and take out all the nasty little viruses and reclaim what is rightfully yours before it's too late and your music is gone forever. As wave after wave of enemies attack, you need to eliminate them before they can eliminate you. It's much easier said than done.
Pop Pirates is a fast paced, high intensity game that newcomers to vertical shooting games are likely going to have a hard time getting the hang of. More experienced players, on the other hand, are probably going to find the opening levels a bit on the easy side but as the game progresses, the action picks up. You'll be confronted with new and more difficult enemies. They fire at you faster and they're harder to kill. They approach more quickly and in greater numbers. This is what makes the game so exciting, but it also what will make it hard for newcomers to the genre to get through even the first few levels. With time and patience, though, this game can be beaten, even by someone with limited experience. As for more experienced players that find the first bit of the game to easy, stick with it. It gets much more difficult.
Unlike most vertical shooting games, Pop Pirates does not offer an upgrades store or the chance to upgrade your ship or your weapon between levels. Instead, weapons upgrades appear throughout the game when you destroy enemies. Almost all of the upgrades you can pick up significantly improve your weapon although some are more valuable than others. As you play, you'll figure out which upgrades are the best and which ones you might want to ignore. If you have a great weapon that is serving you well, you can choose not to pick up an upgrade, but make sure you're familiar with what upgrades do what before you pass up on someone. You never know. The upgrade you're passing up might be an improvement. Also keep an eye out for power ups that will give you an extra life ('1up' folders). You only have five lives when you begin the game. Those extra lives can really go a long way.
Get a high score in Pop Pirates by collecting music files as fast as you can, but always be careful. While collecting the music files fast will give you a better score, it won't do much good if you run out of lives and lose the game right away. Music files appear when you kill an enemy and you have only a limited amount of time to collect them before they disappear. These files are what give you points so they're extremely important if you want to get on the leader board for high scores. Be warned, though - getting on the leader board is far from easy. The high scores are exceptional.
Overall, Pop Pirates is an excellent arcade style vertical shooting game that, although difficult for beginners, will be a lot of fun for any fan of the genre regardless of skill or experience level. While newcomers to the genre might feel a bit overwhelmed once the pace starts picking up, spending a little time playing the game will help them improve. The great thing about this game is that even when it's at its most difficult it doesn't feel frustrating or unbeatable. The best way to get through this game is to keep your eyes open. Watch for enemies that are shooting at you and make sure you avoid their fire. Enemy fire can be easy to overlook which is what makes it most difficult. This is an action packed game that any fan of vertical shooting games or arcade games needs to try at least once!
