Bang! Heroes is an addictive and engrossing action shooting game that will grab your attention from the very beginning and hold it until the bitter end. It isn't necessarily and easy game, but it is a lot of fun. Newcomers to action shooting games are probably going to have a bit of a hard time with the controls as they can be a bit on the complicated side, but more experienced players should have no trouble adjusting to using keys that are not generally part of the controls of most other games in the genre. The basic premise is pretty easy to understand; bandits have taken over border towns all over the Wild West sending towns folk running in fear. You need to be the hero and make those towns safe for their citizens again. You have two characters to choose from for this mission; the gunslinger and the trickster raven. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses so be sure you choose carefully. If you beat the game with one, go back and try to beat it with the other. You'll be surprised at how different the game is between characters.

The game screen in Bang! Heroes isn't much more complicated than the game screen in most other action shooting games, but there is a fair bit of information you need to keep an eye on. First, at the top left of your screen, you'll see your basic stats. The item in the larger circle is your active weapon. Beside that in the smaller circle is the 'special ability' you currently have active. You can chance this at any time throughout the game if you have more than one special ability in your arsenal. Keep an eye out for the silver bullet in this slot. Press the 'activate' button (either 'z', 'shift' or '?') to deliver a piercing shot to the enemy you are facing off against. There are two bars beside your active weapon information; one indicating health, the red bar, and one indicating mana, the blue bar. You will need mana to use some of the special abilities. The brown slots below the bars represent any special weapons or abilities you have saved in your arsenal. As you progress, new slots will appear. If you have multiple special abilities in these slots, you can access them quickly by pressing the number key on your keyboard that corresponds with the item you would like to use.

Collecting gears is extremely important in Bang! Heroes. Like most action shooting games, there is a multitude of upgrades available to you to make your character stronger and to buy those upgrades you will need gears. Gears appear randomly throughout the game and can also be dropped by enemies when you kill them. Unlike many other action shooting games, you do not automatically get points for upgrades (in this case, gears) each time you take out an enemy but will need to manually collect them. That isn't always easy, but it is important. If you want to get through this game, you need to make sure you upgrade your character.

Along with gears, there are several useful power ups in Bang! Heroes that you can collect which will help your game significantly. While in most action shooting games, health refills come in the form of medic kits, in this game, they're simply indicated by hearts. Collect hearts to boost your health and to help repair any damage you've taken. Gold nuggets are a good find even though the don't necessarily provide much help in terms or game play. These nuggets will give you a boost in your game score which will make it a bit easier to get a high score. The iron plate is an excellent power up as it acts as a shield and will help protect you from enemy fire for a short time. The forgiven power up (a yellow heart with wings) will replenish your entire health supply. This is one of the best bonuses in the game that you can find. The hard caliber power up (the yellow/gold bullet) increases the damage you can do with a single shot for a limited time. Make the most of it. Cards are also a great find. You can carry up to two cards at once when you start the game, but each card you find will give you a new special ability you can use. The mana power up (a blue orb with a gold colored border) will replenish your mana. You can save most of the power ups you find to use when you need them. Save them as long as you can. You'll need them when the game gets harder.

Overall, Bang! Heroes is an entertaining action shooting game with great graphics and plenty of excellent power ups to help you get through the harder levels later in the game. the story is great and adds a level of excitement to the game. You really want to help these poor towns folk. The fact that you get to shoot a bunch of stuff along the way is an added bonus. Keep your eyes open for power ups and gears. Both of these things are vital to your survival in this game. With three levels of difficulty to choose from, this game truly offers something for everyone. Newcomers can start out on easy and work their way up to hard while more advanced players are going to want to start or either normal or hard. Don't waste your money on upgrades you don't need in the beginning of the game. Save your money for upgrades for later in the game when things start getting much harder. If you're a fan of action shooting games with fun graphics and an interesting premise, this is definitely a game you need to play.
